With Patience
My friends are strange
Friday comes
They drink and smoke
Never sure when to quit
Pick up another glass
Roll up another joint
Turn up the volume
Music roars
Bodies shake
The night goes on
Laughter and tears grow
Looser and forgetful they flow
Never sure when the night will end
They hope it won’t be soon
But morning comes
Bodies ache and minds scrapped
Restless
Wonder if it was worth it
In the name of fun it was
Say they’re ready for the next time
I gaze at them
Hoping they’ll realize their suffering
But nervy smiles and half shrugs they give
Promise it’s all good
Deep down, I see their pain
I sigh and I, wait
